Bobble Jumper for Kids in Eco Cotton by Blankets From Africa

These pure eco cotton jumpers are hand-knitted in a selection of nature’s colours with Persian bobbles. The yarns are all produced by South African farmers, locally spun and dyed in small dye-lots.

Handmade with love in heart of the Karoo. This the their story:

In true Karoo tradition, women of Southern Africa have drawn on the fine natural wool shorn from the Karoo’s largest inhabitant, the humble sheep, to knit blankets with which to keep young children warm. The sheep will continue to roam the Karoo plains and the women will continue to knit – together producing something truly African to protect their young from the chill of a Karoo winter and ensuring the survival of generations of both.

Blankets from Africa’ provides the women of the Karoo with the means to create a product out of natural wool sheared from the very sheep which surround them. The provision of a simple pattern, needles and pure wool is the catalyst for them to generate an income, enjoy a community spirit of working in a group and experience feelings of achievement and of being valued.

The Benefits of Wool:

Wool is regarded as an ‘active fibre’ meaning that it reacts naturally to changes in body temperature, keeping one warm in a cold environment but cooler as the outside temperature increases. The microscopic bristles on wool fibres minimize the presence of dust-mites, making pure wool garments ideal for wearers who suffer from allergies. The natural elasticity of wool allows it to gently stretch with use and wear but then return to its original shape.
Pure wool is naturally resistant to bacteria and to mold and is considered one of the most breathable materials in the natural world.
